Our story is much like those of many other breeders – it started with a $10 pet store pet in 1957. A trip to an obedience trial and a look at the quality of dogs shown in the conformation ring soon convinced me to purchase a puppy from Margaret Pooley of Rocky Reach Kennels. With 4 children to raise funds were limited but we showed and bred on a small scale from that time on.

Our most important breeding was Smoketree’s Americana to Ch Eko-Lan’s Paladen which produced Champions Caraland’s Apollo, Alamo, Attila and their sister Apollonia. That one litter gave Americana her ROM. Apollo produced Ch Caraland’s Clancy – 1978 Futurity Victor and 1979 Maturity Victor and Select.

I stopped breeding for a few years in the early 80s due to work requirements. When I decided to resume breeding in the late 80s, I purchased a bitch and a male pup from Proven Hill as I liked the  the Adam progeny I  judged around the country. Breeding the bitch to Ch Maverick of Bob-Lyn produced Ch Caraland’s Patricia. Breeding Patricia to the male pup produced Ch Caraland’s Limited Edition and AOE GV Ch Caraland’s Unlimited TC CD.

The tradition of top producing Caraland dogs is now continuing as Ch. Caraland's Magellan's oldest progeny are starting to win.

I hope to continue breeding a few litters and have competitive animals to show. I enjoy exhibiting and am always hoping for the next super star to come along. I am very happy we are known for breeding physically and mentally sound animals who display the type and movement that makes this such a special breed.
